5-5-08

Present: George Gubbins c1904 Gothic Carpenter, Misty Schultz 1903 transitional Victorian, Merri Berlin and Durrell Crays, 1895 Victorian farm house, Rick and Cheryl Lowery 1915 Craftsman, Dan and Ruth Wells 1907 Craftsman, Maribeth Cornwall 1915 bungalow

1. School Bond Issue
Concerns expressed about Boone's Crossing becoming site of new schools. There are concerns and questions. Overcrowding is concern prompting this. Infrastructure issues are a concern.

2. Priorities Discussed
These are suggested issues: trees, architectural integrity, distinctive characteristics of old houses and how to preserve, cleanup campaigns, noise both city sanctioned events and neighbor noise, crime, traffic and infrastructure, membership.

3. Mission Statement Adopted
To preserve and improve the integrity and liveability of the historic neighborhood of Woodburn. This includes the preservation of architectural integrity, historical preservation, trees and other natural features

4. Follow Up Steps
Dan will research noise ordinances. Durrell to make membership flyer and newspaper contact. Rick and Cheryl to research historic overlay.

5. Group Name
Historic Wdb Neighborhoods. Priorities: architecture and natural preservation, noise pollution, lessen residential traffic, preservation of trees and historic houses.

6. Next Meeting
Settlemier House June 2, 7 PM; all Woodburn residents welcome

Meeting Minutes
4-15-08

Present: Durrell Crays (lives in c 1895 house), John Robinson (1925 house), Peggy Dinges (1906 house), Merri Berlin (c 1895 house), Everett Hemshorn (1882 house), George Gubbins (1904 house), Ruth Wells (1907 house), Mary Beth Cornwell (c 1915 house), Misty Schulz (1903 house).

1. Introductions
Everyone introduced themselves and specified the age of their house, and its location.

2. Elections
Durrell Crays agreed to chair the group. John Robinson agreed to be co-chair. Ruth Wells will record meeting notes and create a website.

3. Discussion of Group Focus
Ideas include: Traffic, noise, trees, ensuring houses maintain historic integrity, getting to know neighbors. A mission statement needs to be crafted, perhaps at the next meeting.

4. Possible Next Steps
Suggestions include arranging coverage and meeting announcements from the Woodburn Independent (Durrell). Also, suggestions were made for "important" people to encourage to become involved with our group, ideas for using public access channel (George Gubbins, 1904 house), and the current status of the website.

5. Next Meeting
NEW! Dinner added at 6 PM. Bring side dishes and desserts. Monday, Dinner 6 PM, Meeting 7 PM, May 5 at Ruth Wells' house, 275 North Third, at the corner of Third and Garfield.







We want to post your old house's picture. Black and white or color photos are accepted by email. Send along your name, house's age, and the style of your house if you know it (Victorian, Craftsman, etc.) Send your pictures as attachments and use a standard format like jpg or gif. Send them to the webmaster using the email link at the bottom of the page.
